Construction Services

Akhona Mining Services undertakes construction projects, including:

  • bulk earthworks,
  • layer works,
  • terracing,

  • culverts (precast and in-situ), and

Mine Rehabilitation & Closure

Akhona Mining Services offers:

    • side slope profiling

    • penstock grouting
  • topsoil stockpiling scheduling and management,

Materials Handling

Our Materials Handling Division undertakes materials handling activities within the mining industries, including:

  • energy coal processing,
  • discard and fine coal disposal and recovery,
  • coal plant and terrace activities,
  • raw materials and product handling,
  • crushing and screening, and
  • stockpile and dump management.

Our discard and slurry recovery activities involve the reclamation of materials from mine dumps and/or ponds, the screening and blending of the product, the placement of final discard, the disposal of coal slurry and the rehabilitation of the dumps.

Our conventional material handling capabilities include the moving of material from designated dumps and stockpiles and the handling of all terrace coal into bins, trucks, trains and feed points.

We are committed to delivering a product that conforms to our clients’ specification, and our Akhona Mining Services teams across the country are consistent in conducting quality monitoring and performance measurement controls.

Tailings Operations

The Akhona Mining Services Tailings Operations offers the mining industry outsourced residue management solutions including design, construction, operation and management of disposal facilities, reclamation projects and associated infrastructure. We provide:

  • design solutions and construction management,
  • waste facility operations and management, and
  • hydraulic reclamation and dredging.

Our capabilities extend to hydraulic reclamation operations for the recovery of minerals in existing tailings facilities and the environmental clean-up of residue spills in vlei areas and water courses.

Our expertise spans the design, construction and operation of the full range of conventional disposal facilities (cyclone, spigot, ring dyke, and so forth), for the full life cycle of the facility, including its environmental closure planning and implementation thereof.
